24 As for you, let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father. 1 John 2:24
At the conception of our Christian lives we received fully installed the power of the gospel, namely the Spirit of the living God within us, Jesus Christ. He is “what you heard from the beginning” appropriated through faith.
As sure as he died sinless, was buried, was resurrected, appeared to many, including John, and ascended to the Father to await a triumphant return, we have been transferred from darkness to the Kingdom and into the Father’s presence. We now have a place at the kitchen table with the Son and the Father.
And you know what the discussion always gravitates to? That which was “from the beginning,” i.e. the gospel. If this message abides in you and you abide in it, each and every day you will be transformed, ready to take on all your temporary home–the world–can throw at you.
Abide means to “remain.” This is one table you don’t want to push away from.
