[Read at your own risk Ecclesiastes 12:1-8]
Good news. All the bad things that will happen to me in the dark days of old age are still tied up in traffic, and I’m 58. I can see some of these things coming on with my progressive lenses, and hey, is it too much to ask to loosen up a little before jogging to your car in the rain? And why not veer off at all the rest stops. That’s what they’re there for.
Seriously, Solomon’s whole point has been enjoying life in the here and now, under the constraints of a healthy fear of God. As we see the days growing nigh, all the more reason to implement his “eat, drink and be merry” philosophy. There is, in fact, no other alternative. But if I can still run and ride and pound a nail and enjoy the wife of my youth, good chance tomorrow I’ll be able to do the same. No more long-term plans.
