Coming to Light

But all things become visible when they are exposed by the light. Ephesians 5:13a

There seems to be a daily revelation of something sordid about someone famous these days. The past evil done in deep darkness comes to light, leaving the perpetrator exposed.

Those harmed appear not so much motivated by the truth, but by sensing some political or monetary gain, or opportunity for revenge.

You see this kind of behavior among male lions. They ravage their own to gain power.

Surely God is presiding over all of this, as he preprogrammed the demise of evil people, and never loses sight of the deeds done in darkness. He is, after all, the Light.

But guess what, so are we! A life lived according to his light is one of “goodness and righteousness and truth.” (Ephesians 5:9) This kind of behavior exposes evil wherever we go.

The concept here is not that we Christians are illumined by the truth, but that we are truth personified. We’re enlightened for sure, but we’re first of all a light.

So “walk as children of light!” (Ephesians 5:8) And don’t be surprised when people run for cover!

For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. “But he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God. John 3:20-21
