Battle Royale

“But the prince of the kingdom of Persia was withstanding me for twenty-one days; then behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left there with the kings of Persia. Daniel 10:13

What this heavenly conflict means to us is this; what was true then, should be true today. What would have changed for there not to be one of God’s angels assigned to the respective kingdoms of this world to fight for good? On the other hand, can we not expect one of Satan’s choice demons to be hanging with Xin Jinping or Putin, or rulers in America?

Then he said, “Do you understand why I came to you? But I shall now return to fight against the prince of Persia; so I am going forth, and behold, the prince of Greece is about to come. Daniel 10:20

There is indeed sufficient evil influence lurking behind the curtains to sway the minds of these leaders to do wickedness, to connive and cheat, and to ultimately destroy goodness and love. Where there are no restraints built into the law of the land, or, more importantly, into the heart of the leader, this destructive influence is unabated. But if a leader desires to do the righteous thing, the “prince of the power of the air” (Ephesians 2:2) will pull out all the stops to rein him in.

To Daniel, his prophetic message of truth was foretelling of the ultimate demise of all evil, and the Satanic angel of Persia fought tooth and nail against it, since the forces of evil learned from it that they would not prevail.

This stunning revelation left Daniel bewildered and beleaguered. He cried out for understanding, and the Lord dispatched an angel to him. Imagine this, that God cared enough for Daniel to pull a very important linchpin in his security force to help his faithful mouthpiece understand his message! But this angel needed reinforcements. Chief prince Michael was indeed stronger in the end, since God’s goodness, truth, and will are always stronger.

Leaders today are swayed by the same unseen forces. It’s a battle royale. But consider this. We Christians bear the very spirit of Jesus Christ. We’re the modern-day Daniels, because we possess and understand end times. Like Daniel, what we see today nauseates us, and we pray fervently that the Lord will win out soon! We too are distraught that the Lord appears to tarry, and that ground is being permanently lost to evil forces. We worry that our nation’s leader’s good angel is outmanned or outgunned!

Fear not. Michael, other chief princes, and these dogged resident angels, are still in the fight, tenacious as ever.

“However, I will tell you what is inscribed in the writing of truth. Yet there is no one who stands firmly with me against these forces except Michael your prince.” Daniel 10:21

But be reminded, Daniel’s prophecy is yet future, and it gets worse before it gets better. It may well be the future is now, and what is happening is the Lord’s doing. He may be working his plan, and we’re simply not privy to what’s going on, since it’s happening in the heavenly background.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12
