Rock of Ages

6Who can stand before His indignation?
Who can endure the burning of His anger?
His wrath is poured out like fire
And the rocks are broken up by Him.
7The Lord is good,
A stronghold in the day of trouble,
And He knows those who take refuge in Him.

Nahum 1:6-7

In the middle of foretelling the total destruction planned for Nineveh, Nahum provides an encouraging interlude. He reminds us that the Lord is good, lest we forget.

He instructs us in His way, gives us strength in times of trouble, delivers us from the wicked, and His love for us remains loyal through thick and thin, if we seek refuge in Him and in Him only.

When the rocks are broken up by Him, the Rock upon which we stand remains solid.

Rock of ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in Thee.
