Change the Narrative

She heeded no voice,
She accepted no instruction.
She did not trust in the Lord,
She did not draw near to her God.

Zephaniah 3:2

This description of Jerusalem reads like an epitaph, who the prophet went on to call rebellious, defiled, and tyrannical.

On a personal level these are fair questions to ask myself. Am I heeding and accepting the Lord’s instructions? Am I trusting in him? Am I drawing near to him?

Earlier the prophet says…

Seek the Lord, all you humble of the earth
Who have carried out His ordinances;
Seek righteousness, seek humility.
Perhaps you will be hidden
In the day of the Lord’s anger.

Zephaniah 2:3

How much better to be described as one who sought the Lord and carried out his ordinances, who sought righteousness, and was humble. In that day he or she was hidden from his anger.

It’s not too late to change the narrative.
