“I say to you, not even in Israel have I found such great faith.” Luke 7:9 (NAS)
[Read Luke 7:1-10]
The centurion is touted by Jesus for his great faith. The soldier on one hand thought himself to be unworthy to be in the same room as the Lord, but through his proxies, Jewish elders, put himself on the same footing as Jesus with respect to authority.
We all enjoy those rare occasions when we happen to know someone that might grease the skids for us. It’s called “knowing a guy.” Some of us are quick to use this “guy” to get what we need, but others might not wish to stoop so low as to be dependent or indebted in any way to another.
As Christians we always know a guy, “the guy” who can help us. In fact, we are related to him. Whereas the centurion went through his Jewish friends to get to Jesus, we use Jesus to get to God. The common denominator in both cases is faith.
